Where it came from
The Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set was released in 1996 by Fleer/SkyBox as an introductory trading card game designed to make the complexities of collectible card gaming accessible to a broader audience. These front cards were specifically crafted to serve as starter pieces, helping new players grasp character attributes and gameplay mechanics through simplified visual layouts and concise power descriptions.
The design of the Incredible card, featuring the Hulk, reflects the bold, high-contrast aesthetic favored by Fleer during the mid-nineties. Illustrators for the series sought to capture the raw, explosive energy of Marvel’s flagship characters, utilizing vibrant color palettes and dynamic posing that aligned with the dramatic storytelling found in the comic books of that era. The series was generally well-received by young fans and entry-level collectors for its user-friendly approach, even if it struggled to gain significant traction among professional-level competitive players.
