Provenance

Where it came from

The Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set was released in 1996 by Fleer/SkyBox as an introductory trading card product designed to appeal to younger audiences and new collectors. These cards functioned as a streamlined gateway into the broader Marvel trading card ecosystem, emphasizing accessible artwork and simplified character profiles that highlighted the essential traits of iconic Marvel figures.

The 'Villains' card, numbered 6 in the series, serves as a thematic ensemble piece showcasing prominent antagonists from the Marvel universe. The design utilizes a high-contrast aesthetic typical of mid-nineties comic marketing, favoring bold typography and dynamic, previously published panel art to capture the intense conflict between heroes and their nemeses. It was received as a functional utility card rather than a premium chase piece, serving primarily to ground the Jumpstart collection in the foundational lore of the publisher.
