Where it came from
The Inferno Project was released in 2021 as part of the Prismari Performance Commander deck, which was a core component of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set. The card was designed to reflect the chaotic and expressive nature of the Prismari college, a group within the game's lore known for blending artistic creativity with destructive elemental magic.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a vivid, high-contrast aesthetic to emphasize the explosive energy inherent to the Prismari style. Upon its debut, the card was received as a functional, theme-appropriate addition to red-blue spell-slinging strategies, valued by players for its ability to provide recurring value within the specific mechanical framework of the Commander 2021 release.
