What it does
Parley — Whenever this creature attacks, each player reveals the top card of their library. For each nonland card revealed this way, you investigate. Then each player draws a card.
At the beginning of your end step, you may untap all lands you control. If you do, you can't cast spells until your next turn.

Where it came from
Innocuous Researcher was released as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set in early 2024. The card was designed for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, a multiplayer variant that emphasizes social play and complex board states. It reflects the set's broader thematic focus on mystery, investigation, and the trope-heavy aesthetic of a classic whodunit set within the urban, gothic-inspired plane of Ravnica.
The card’s illustration was handled by artist Helge C. Balzer, who captured a quintessential investigative aesthetic featuring a character meticulously documenting evidence. The design incorporates the 'collect evidence' mechanic, a hallmark of this specific expansion, which rewards players for interacting with their own graveyards. Upon its release, it was noted for its utility in decks focused on graveyard synergy and spell-casting efficiency.
