Where it came from
Inscription of Insight was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising set for Magic: The Gathering. As a modal spell, it represents the set’s mechanical focus on flexibility, allowing players to choose multiple effects based on the current board state. The card was designed to evoke the high-adventure, treasure-hunting themes of the Zendikar plane, emphasizing the intellectual and magical exploration central to the setting's lore.
The artwork, illustrated by Bastien Deharme, captures the intense, mystical atmosphere of the Zendikar ruins. Deharme aimed to reflect the card's theme of profound discovery through a cool, ethereal color palette and intricate linework. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its utility in competitive formats, particularly in control archetypes where the ability to bounce creatures and draw cards in a single turn provides significant tactical advantage.
