Where it came from
Inspiration was reprinted as part of the Return to Ravnica expansion, released in 2012. Originally debuting in the Mirage set in 1996, this card serves as a foundational blue instant that allows a player to draw two cards. Its inclusion in the Return to Ravnica set was designed to support the mechanical identity of the Izzet League, a guild defined by its affinity for instant and sorcery spells and the pursuit of chaotic innovation.
The art for this printing was created by Dan Scott, who updated the visual identity of the spell to align with the guild-focused aesthetic of Ravnica. While the card is a functional reprint of a classic effect, the version featured in this set emphasizes the theme of sudden insight amidst the intricate urban landscape of the plane. It was received by players as a reliable, utilitarian staple that maintained the historical legacy of the spell while fitting the thematic requirements of the set's limited and constructed formats.
