Where it came from
Interjection was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a blue instant spell, reflecting the set's academic theme centered around the five colleges of Strixhaven University. The mechanics were crafted to evoke the feeling of a magical rebuttal, fitting within the color pie's emphasis on counter-magic and tempo disruption.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss. His design approach for this piece focuses on the ethereal and scholarly aesthetic of the Prismari college, utilizing dynamic lighting and fluid visual effects to represent the act of magical interference. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, utility-focused addition to the set, noted by players for its thematic consistency with the wizardly high-concept world-building established by Wizards of the Coast.
