Interjection // Interjection

The Interjection art card was released as part of the Secrets of Strixhaven Art Series, which accompanied the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Strixhaven: School of Mages in 2021. These cards were designed to highlight the illustration work featured on the main set cards, stripping away the game mechanics to allow the artwork to occupy the full face of the card. The series was produced to cater to collectors and enthusiasts of fantasy illustration, providing a high-quality, gallery-style look at the aesthetic world-building of the Strixhaven campus.

The illustration for Interjection was created by artist Bryan Sola. His design for this piece captures the essence of the card’s function within the game—a counter-spell mechanic—by depicting the fluid, arcane manifestations of a Strixhaven spellcaster. Sola’s approach emphasizes the vibrant, academic-magical color palette synonymous with the set, and the piece was well-received by the player base for its kinetic energy and distinct style, which manages to stand out even within the dense, visually intricate landscape of the larger Strixhaven collection.
