Where it came from
Into the Time Vortex was released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' set, specifically the Doctor Who Commander deck titled 'Blast from the Past.' The card was developed by Wizards of the Coast to translate the expansive, non-linear narrative nature of the Doctor Who franchise into the mechanics of the game. It functions as a sorcery that represents the Doctor's ability to manipulate time and space, allowing players to cascade through their library to find spells from different historical points in their deck.
The artwork for this card was crafted by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a vivid, swirling aesthetic to capture the chaotic and ethereal essence of the TARDIS traveling through the time vortex. Her design emphasizes the iconic visual motifs of the long-running television series, focusing on a sense of infinite movement. The card was well received by fans of both the game and the show for its thematic accuracy and its ability to replicate the unpredictable adventure associated with the Doctor’s travels.
