Where it came from
Invasion of Tarkir, released as part of the March of the Machine set in 2023, represents a significant narrative milestone in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. Designed as a double-faced Battle card, it depicts the Phyrexian invasion of the plane of Tarkir. This card type was introduced specifically for this set to mechanically represent the multi-front conflict, allowing players to siege specific planes and earn rewards upon defeating them.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the chaotic, draconic intensity of Tarkir's battlefields. The design intentionally evokes the established visual lore of the plane, which is characterized by its deep connection to dragon lineages. Upon its release, players and collectors noted the card for its thematic resonance with the plane's history and its functional role as a pivotal transformation mechanic within the set's broader meta-game.
