Where it came from
Vorinclex, The Grand Evolution originates from the 2023 Magic: The Gathering set March of the Machine, which depicted a climactic multiversal conflict against the biomechanical Phyrexians. This specific iteration represents the character Vorinclex during the invasion of the plane of Kaldheim, characterized by his brutal, transformative approach to nature. The promo variant, numbered 213p, was distributed through promotional channels, such as local game store events, as a showcase for the set's central antagonist.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Daarken, a long-time contributor to the game known for his dark, visceral aesthetic. The design goal was to emphasize the character’s predatory dominance and the chaotic, parasitic nature of the Phyrexians as they assimilated the flora and fauna of the world they invaded. Upon release, the card was received as a mechanically significant addition to the Commander format, often appreciated for its board-clearing potential and thematic cohesion with the Phyrexian faction's narrative arc.
