Invigorate

Invigorate was originally released in the Mercadian Masques expansion in 1999 as a common card, designed to explore the mechanic of paying life to cast spells for free. It was later reprinted in the Game Night: Free-for-All set, a product released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 designed to be a standalone, accessible gateway for multiplayer Magic: The Gathering experiences. This version retained the original intent of the card as a high-risk, high-reward instant that provides a significant power boost to a creature at the cost of granting the opponent life.

The artwork for this version was provided by Mark Zug, a veteran illustrator known for his dynamic and painterly approach to the game's creature and spell effects. Zug’s design for the piece emphasizes the visceral, transformative nature of the spell, capturing the sudden infusion of energy required to turn the tide of a combat encounter.
