Invigorate

Invigorate was originally printed as a common in the Mercadian Masques expansion of 1999, intended as a high-risk, high-reward combat trick that allowed players to boost a creature for zero mana at the cost of providing life to an opponent. Its design emphasizes the green color philosophy of aggressive growth coupled with a strategic drawback. The card has historically been a centerpiece in the Pauper format due to its efficiency, leading to its eventual banning in that specific competitive environment.

The 2011 printing in the Commander series marked the card's debut in the supplemental product line focused on multiplayer formats. This version features new artwork by artist Kev Walker, whose character-focused style highlights the raw, visceral nature of the spell. By including it in a dedicated Commander deck, Wizards of the Coast sought to provide eternal players with access to staple utility cards that had previously only appeared in older core or expansion sets, ensuring the card remained relevant in evolving gameplay contexts.
