Where it came from
Invincible Hymn was released in 2008 as part of the Shards of Alara expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the Bant shard, a plane defined by its rigid societal structure, emphasis on hierarchy, and the ideal of peace achieved through communal strength. It was designed to mechanically embody the 'Exalted' keyword, a central theme of the set that rewards players for attacking with a single creature, reflecting the noble, knightly aesthetic of the Bant culture.
The artwork was illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, a frequent contributor to the franchise known for his cinematic and high-fantasy style. Briclot focused on capturing the serene yet powerful essence of the Bant religious order, depicting a moment of spiritual synchronization that aligns with the card's function of boosting a creature's power based on the number of cards in the player's deck. Upon release, the card was noted for its flavor and its role in reinforcing the thematic identity of the white-aligned faction within the set.
