Where it came from
The Invocation of Saint Traft was released in 2016 as part of the Shadows over Innistrad set for Magic: The Gathering. This card is a reprint of a legendary creature from the original Innistrad block, reimagined with the specialized 'Expedition' frame treatment. It was designed to capture the gothic horror atmosphere of the plane of Innistrad, focusing on the ghostly remnant of a hero who continues to defend the living against the encroaching darkness of the set's narrative.
The illustration for this iteration was created by Johannes Voss, who utilized a ethereal and luminous style to distinguish the spirit of Traft from the surrounding gloom of the Innistrad setting. The design was intended to evoke a sense of holy power and tragic memory, adhering to the intricate, foil-etched aesthetic established for the set's rare masterpiece series. It remains a sought-after piece for players who appreciate the visual storytelling of the Innistrad mythology.
