The baloth's instincts boiled, its muscles pulled taut, and its razor-spines bristled, as it turned to face—a runt meepling.

Where it came from
Irresistible Prey was released in 2010 as part of the Rise of the Eldrazi expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked the conclusion of the Zendikar block, a block defined by its adventure-themed mechanics and the dramatic arrival of the Eldrazi, massive, world-consuming entities. The card was designed to support the set's focus on creature-based combat and board manipulation, embodying the flavor of a desperate, primal hunt.
The artwork for the card was provided by Zoltan Boros and Gabor Szikszai, a prolific artistic duo known for their dynamic, painterly style during this era of the game. Their design for this piece captures the tension of the chase, emphasizing the card's function of forcing an opponent to block, which was a strategic tool intended to help players clear paths for their larger threats. It remains a classic example of the set's mechanical synergy and thematic intensity.
