Provenance

Where it came from

Ixidron was originally introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering set Time Spiral, designed by Bill Rose, Tyler Bielman, and Paul Sottosanti as part of a block heavily focused on temporal themes and nostalgia for the game's history. The creature was intended to showcase a unique form of board manipulation, forcing all other creatures into colorless 2/2 faces, which reflects the 'morph' mechanic's ability to disguise the true nature of cards on the battlefield.

The 2014 Commander printing, illustrated by Nils Hamm, features updated card frames consistent with the Wizards of the Coast supplemental product line. Hamm, a recurring artist for the game known for his atmospheric and organic painting style, depicts the creature as a mysterious, ethereal entity. It remains a popular utility card in the Commander format for its ability to neutralize high-threat enemy boards through a single, transformative effect.
