Izzet Boilerworks was originally introduced in the 2006 Guildpact expansion, representing the industrious, chaotic energy of the Izzet League on the plane of Ravnica. This specific printing comes from the 2015 Commander release, which featured preconstructed decks centered around the various color combinations and political factions of Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a 'bounceland,' a type of utility land that provides two mana of different colors at the cost of returning a land to the player's hand, reflecting the mechanical theme of balancing resource management with long-term utility.

The card’s art, crafted by illustrator Stephan Martiniere, captures the mechanical complexity and steam-powered aesthetic characteristic of the Izzet guild.
