What it does

Whenever a commander you control enters or attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on it, then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. Put that card onto the battlefield tapped and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

The ever-resourceful Yeoman Rand approached scheduling conflicts and firefights with equal poise.

Provenance

Where it came from

Janice Rand, Essential Aide is a card featured in the Star Trek Commander set, released by Decipher, Inc. to coincide with the enduring popularity of the Star Trek Customizable Card Game. This set was designed to introduce new players to the game mechanics while providing veteran collectors with cards that highlighted iconic supporting characters from the Original Series.

The card captures the likeness of Grace Lee Whitney, who portrayed Yeoman Janice Rand in the early episodes of Star Trek. The design team focused on emphasizing her role as an essential bridge between Captain Kirk and the ship's command structure, utilizing a layout consistent with the aesthetic of the period-accurate graphics that defined the entire Star Trek card line. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its thematic accuracy and for giving recognition to a character whose contributions were vital to the narrative flow of the show.
