What it does
At the beginning of your end step, target opponent gains control of up to one target creature you control. Put two +1/+1 counters on it and tap it. It's goaded for the rest of the game and it gains "This creature can't be sacrificed." (It attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able.)
Whenever a creature you own but don't control attacks, you draw a card.

Where it came from
Jon Irenicus, Shattered One was released in 2022 as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion. The card draws directly from the central antagonist of the classic 2000 video game Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, representing the character's descent into madness and his status as a fallen elf exile. This set was designed to translate iconic characters and mechanics from the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, emphasizing multiplayer gameplay dynamics.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, who utilized a moody, ethereal color palette to emphasize the character's corrupted nature and his transformation into a creature of pure malice. Mechanically, the card was designed to reflect Irenicus's penchant for experimentation and psychological manipulation, allowing players to donate their own creatures to opponents while imbuing them with powerful buffs that force interaction. It was well-received by players for its flavorful design that perfectly captures the essence of a villain who prefers to control others rather than act alone.
