What it does
At the beginning of your end step, target opponent gains control of up to one target creature you control. Put two +1/+1 counters on it and tap it. It's goaded for the rest of the game and it gains "This creature can't be sacrificed." (It attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able.)
Whenever a creature you own but don't control attacks, you draw a card.

Where it came from
Jon Irenicus, Shattered One was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. This set was designed to capture the lore and mechanics of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop campaign setting, specifically focusing on the iconic characters and locations of the Baldur's Gate region. The card depicts Irenicus, the primary antagonist from the 2000 video game Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, emphasizing his role as an exiled wizard obsessed with reclaiming his divinity.
The artwork was illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific fantasy artist known for his atmospheric and character-focused contributions to the game. Briclot’s design reflects Irenicus's fractured nature and his signature visual motif of the mask used to hide his scarred, eyeless face. Within the game's mechanics, the card was received as a flavorful top-down design, intended to allow players to replicate the antagonist's ability to manipulate and force others into his service through the 'goad' mechanic.
