Provenance

Where it came from

Karn, Silver Golem first appeared in the 1998 Urza's Saga expansion as part of a pivotal narrative arc within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. Designed by Mark Rosewater and illustrated by Mark Zug, the card represents the sentient golem created by the planeswalker Urza to serve as a steward for his legacy and a key component in his plans to combat the Phyrexians. Its mechanics, which allow the card to animate artifacts, were highly regarded for their strategic depth and remain a staple in artifact-focused deck archetypes.

The 1999 World Championship Decks version, specifically card kb298, was part of a special product line intended to replicate the exact deck lists used by top-performing players at the 1999 World Championship. These cards are easily distinguished from their original printings by the unique gold-bordered frames and the signature of the professional player on the front. While not legal for sanctioned tournament play, they are highly regarded by collectors for their historical snapshot of competitive play during a formative era of the game.
