Keening Stone

Keening Stone was first introduced in the Rise of the Eldrazi set in 2010, designed as a high-mana rare artifact intended for Commander and casual play environments where games naturally extend into late-game scenarios. Its ability to mill an opponent for an amount equal to the number of cards in their graveyard creates a powerful, exponential scaling effect that can end games quickly if left unanswered on the battlefield.

The version from Commander 2016, featuring the original illustration by Jung Park, maintains the card's stark, ominous aesthetic. Park’s design emphasizes the stone as a cold, imposing relic of Eldrazi influence, using muted tones and sharp lines to convey a sense of inevitable psychic drain. This iteration was included in the preconstructed decks of the 2016 release to support graveyard-focused strategies and provide players with a reliable, albeit expensive, win condition.
