Where it came from
Keeper of the Accord was released as part of the Commander Legends set in November 2020, a set specifically designed to cater to the popular Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. This white card was introduced as a tool to help players in multiplayer games keep pace with opponents in terms of land count and creature presence, reflecting the set's philosophy of balancing board states in four-player matches.
The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who is well known for her elegant and ethereal style within the Magic art community. The design focuses on the character's role as a mediator and enforcer, utilizing a classic fantasy aesthetic to represent the mechanical theme of 'keeping the accord.' Upon its release, it was well-received by deck builders for its utility in non-green decks that struggle to catch up on ramp, cementing its place as a staple utility card.
