Where it came from
Keeper of the Crown // Coronation of the Wilds is a double-sided card released in 2024 as part of Mystery Booster 2, a product designed by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering through a curated draft experience. The card functions as a playtest-style mechanic, leaning into the 'playtest' aesthetic featured throughout the set, which highlights experimental designs that were previously exclusive to internal development or promotional events.
The card features an illustration reminiscent of classic fantasy tropes, aligning with the playful and nostalgic tone of the Mystery Booster 2 collection. The design reflects the team's effort to blend traditional card mechanics with the whimsical, often meta-referential style typical of the playtest cards found in the set, aimed at providing an unpredictable and engaging experience for draft participants.
