Where it came from
Keepers of the Faith was released as part of the 1995 Chronicles set, a cornerstone of the burgeoning collectible card game market of the mid-1990s. This set was designed to explore various themes of spirituality and historical faith, offering players a unique aesthetic that departed from the fantasy-heavy tropes common in the industry at the time. It was created to provide a contemplative experience for collectors, focusing on evocative imagery that aimed to balance historical reverence with the mechanics of gameplay.
The illustration for the card reflects the stylistic trends of the era, utilizing detailed, painterly techniques intended to ground the subject matter in a sense of antiquity. The design was received by the community as a distinct addition to the Chronicles lineup, appreciated for its departure from standard game art. It remains a notable piece for those who appreciate the intersection of thematic storytelling and early game design philosophies.
