Khod, Etlan Shiis Envoy

Khod, Etlan Shiis Envoy originated as part of the 2021 Mystery Booster Playtest Cards, a series of experimental designs released by Wizards of the Coast for their convention-only booster packs. These cards were created to explore unconventional mechanics and design spaces that did not fit into standard set releases, often featuring 'playtest' labels and stripped-down aesthetic layouts that mimic the internal development process of the Magic: The Gathering design team.

The card was designed to highlight the game's evolving approach to multiplayer-centric mechanics, drawing inspiration from the political and diplomatic themes found in specialized formats like Commander. While the specific illustrator is often credited under the internal development pseudonym common to these prototypes, the design was received by the player community as a fascinating glimpse into the 'whiteboard' phase of card creation, valued primarily by collectors interested in the mechanical history of the game rather than competitive tournament play.
