Where it came from
Kibo, Uktabi Prince was released as part of the Secret Lair x Post Malone: Backstage Pass drop, a collaborative effort between Wizards of the Coast and the musician Post Malone. This card, specifically numbered 2401, reflects the thematic intersection of Magic: The Gathering gameplay and the personal aesthetic influences of the artist, known for his avid interest in the game.
The card’s illustration was handled by artist Greg Staples, who rendered Kibo within the distinct artistic direction typical of the Secret Lair series, which often reimagines legendary creatures with stylized, personality-driven visuals. The design choices were intended to mirror the whimsical yet aggressive nature of the character, a mascot-like figure that has been well-received by players for its unique interaction with Artifact tokens.
