Killian, Ink Duelist // Killian, Ink Duelist

Killian, Ink Duelist was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series in 2021. The set was created by Wizards of the Coast to showcase the vibrant, academic fantasy aesthetic of the Strixhaven campus, specifically the Silverquill College, which focuses on the magic of words and ink. These cards serve as collectible art prints, featuring expanded illustrations that remove traditional card frames to emphasize the original artwork created for the game.

The illustration for Killian was rendered by artist Ekaterina Burmak, who designed the character to embody the sharp, elegant, and somewhat ominous aesthetic of Silverquill. The design emphasizes the character's mastery over ink magic, using a high-contrast palette to distinguish the figure from the arcane background. Upon release, the art series cards were well-received by collectors who prioritize the visual storytelling of Magic: The Gathering over standard gameplay utility.
