Where it came from
Teach by Example was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series in 2021. The Strixhaven set centered on a magical university theme, drawing inspiration from high-fantasy academic tropes. This card was designed as a double-faced art print, showcasing the original digital illustration on one side and a gold-stamped artist signature on the reverse, intended primarily as a collectible for fans of the game's aesthetic rather than for functional gameplay.
The illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, known for his long-standing contributions to the Magic: The Gathering card game. Kieryluk’s work for Strixhaven sought to emphasize the scholarly and arcane atmosphere of the Prismari college. Upon its release, the Art Series was well received by the community for offering high-resolution looks at the set's artwork, which are often obscured by text boxes on standard gameplay cards.
