Where it came from
Kinbinding was released as part of the Lorwyn Eclipsed Promos, a set of promotional cards issued by Wizards of the Coast in 2007. This specific card was distributed as a participation reward for players engaging in the Lorwyn release events, designed to encourage community involvement during the launch of the new block. The card features art by Aleksi Briclot, who was tasked with capturing the whimsical yet slightly melancholic aesthetic of the Lorwyn setting, a plane defined by its folklore-inspired creatures and cyclical seasonal themes.
The card serves as a functional reprint of a common enchantment within the Lorwyn set, distinguished primarily by its unique foil treatment and promotional expansion symbol. Briclot's illustration emphasizes the ethereal, nature-bound magic of the kithkin, the central race of the set. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its vibrant, high-quality art and its utility in limited formats, cementing its place as a recognizable piece of Magic: The Gathering history from the mid-2000s era.
