Provenance

Where it came from

Kiss of the Amesha was originally introduced in the Conflux expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2009. The card was designed as a multi-colored sorcery representing a powerful, restorative blessing from the angelic Amesha, fitting the set's theme of planar merging and the celestial iconography of the Bant shard.

The artwork was commissioned from Todd Lockwood, a veteran fantasy illustrator known for his dramatic, high-fantasy style. Lockwood's depiction of the ethereal, radiant figure was intended to evoke a sense of divine intervention and grace, and the design was well-received by players for its visually striking interpretation of Bant's idealistic culture. The card later appeared on The List, a curated selection of reprints included in Set Boosters to introduce newer players to iconic or mechanically interesting cards from throughout the game's history.
