Where it came from
The Kithkin token, numbered 7 within the Lorwyn expansion's token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2007. It was designed to represent the tribal creature type introduced as a core theme of the Lorwyn plane, which featured a whimsical, folklore-inspired aesthetic. These tokens were inserted into booster packs to assist players in tracking board states during gameplay, specifically for cards that generated 1/1 white Kithkin Soldier creatures.
The visual design of the token reflects the illustrative shift toward a vibrant, storybook-influenced style characteristic of the set's art direction. Created to evoke the communal, tight-knit nature of the Kithkin race, the illustration emphasizes their small stature and defense-oriented culture. As a standard utility token, it was received as a functional necessity for the Lorwyn draft environment, becoming a staple for players navigating the heavy tribal synergies of the era.
