Where it came from
Kor Dirge was released in February 2007 as part of the Planar Chaos set for Magic: The Gathering. As the second entry in the Time Spiral block, the set focused on an alternate reality where historical events occurred differently, allowing for 'timeshifted' cards that explored hypothetical mechanics and color pie deviations. This card reflects the set's theme of temporal instability and the shifting nature of the plane of Rath.
The artwork was provided by fantasy illustrator Dave Dorman, a veteran artist known for his atmospheric and textured work in the Star Wars universe and various gaming properties. Dorman utilized his characteristic painterly style to depict the haunting, ghostly nature of the Kor race. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its situational defensive utility, serving as a distinct example of the white-aligned color identity experiments prevalent throughout the Planar Chaos expansion.
