Where it came from
Krosan Colossus was released in 2002 as a rare card in the Onslaught expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a centerpiece of the set, it was designed to exemplify the set's focus on the 'morph' mechanic and its theme of massive, high-mana-cost creatures. The card represents the powerful, nature-focused aesthetics of the Krosa forest, serving as a defining high-end threat for Green decks during that era of gameplay.
The illustration was crafted by artist Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic contributors to the early history of the game. Rush utilized his signature style to emphasize the sheer scale and primal force of the Colossus, creating a visual that effectively captured its mechanical presence as an unstoppable, trampling force. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its flavor and its role as a formidable finisher in both casual play and limited formats.
