Krosan Constrictor

Krosan Constrictor was released in the Torment expansion for Magic: The Gathering in February 2002. As part of the Odyssey block, the set was uniquely designed with a heavy emphasis on black mana, shifting the traditional color pie balance to explore thematic elements of decay and madness. Within this context, the card reflects the aggressive, nature-themed design language of the green color identity during the early 2000s, serving as a tactical tool for players to neutralize opposing artifacts.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Daren Bader, whose contributions were instrumental in defining the visual aesthetic of the Odyssey block. Bader was tasked with depicting the massive, predatory serpents of the Krosa forest, blending organic textures with a sense of looming menace. Upon release, the card was received as a solid utility choice for green-based strategies, particularly valued in limited environments for its ability to punish mechanical reliance while maintaining a sturdy presence on the battlefield.
