Where it came from
Kurbis, Harvest Celebrant was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set. The character was designed to embody the themes of the set, specifically the gothic horror aesthetic of the Innistrad plane and the traditional harvest festivals that serve as a central conflict during the arrival of the Eternal Night. Mechanically, the card was developed to support a +1/+1 counter strategy, reflecting the flavor of a woodland entity that consumes the harvest to grow in power.
The card illustration was created by artist L.J. Koh, who focused on the juxtaposition of the creature's eerie, harvest-themed biology with the dark, autumnal atmosphere of Innistrad. The design leans into a blend of organic, plant-like features and the sinister, supernatural tone characteristic of the set's commander offerings. Upon release, it was well-received by players building decks around creature synergies and graveyard-focused mechanics.
