Provenance

Where it came from

Originally printed as a rare card in the 1999 Mercadian Masques expansion for Magic: The Gathering, Land Grant was designed as a unique utility card for green decks. Its function allows players to reveal their hand to search their library for a Forest, effectively thinning the deck and providing mana consistency without a mana investment. This design reflects the set's thematic focus on resource manipulation and trade within the world of Mercadia.

The card features artwork by Eric Peterson, who employed a detailed, earth-toned illustrative style to convey the flavor of territorial acquisition. While initially seen as a niche tool for specific combo decks, the card gained significant long-term recognition within the competitive Legacy and Pauper formats. Its inclusion in The List—a curated selection of reprints—serves to keep this historically significant card accessible to contemporary players.
