Late to Dinner // Late to Dinner

Late to Dinner was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, a subset of collectible cards designed to showcase the high-quality digital and traditional illustrations commissioned for the Magic: The Gathering expansion set of the same name. These art cards were distributed in set boosters to provide players and collectors with frame-less, text-less versions of the game’s expanded artwork, effectively turning functional game components into standalone portfolio pieces for the sets they represent.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Livia Prima, who rendered the scene with a focus on dramatic lighting and the whimsical, slightly macabre aesthetic often found in the world of Magic: The Gathering. By stripping away the mechanical rules text and mana costs found on the standard playable card, this art series iteration emphasizes the specific brushwork and compositional choices that define the set's visual identity, highlighting how digital artistry has become a cornerstone of modern trading card design.
