Ley Line

Ley Line was released in 1999 as part of the Mercadian Masques expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the alien, mercantile plane of Mercadia, the expansion focused on themes of commerce, political intrigue, and the control of magical energy sources. The card was designed as an uncommon enchantment, reflecting the game's shift during this era toward mechanics that rewarded board control and the manipulation of land-based resources.

The artwork was commissioned from Terese Nielsen, a prominent illustrator who contributed extensively to the game during the late 1990s and 2000s. Nielsen’s aesthetic for the piece captures a mystical, ethereal quality, utilizing a balanced color palette to evoke the flow of mana across the landscape.
