Leyline of Anticipation

Leyline of Anticipation first appeared in Magic 2011 and was reprinted in Core Set 2020, featuring the signature Leyline cycle mechanic that allows players to bypass timing restrictions if the card is in their opening hand. The design intent behind the cycle was to provide players with powerful, game-altering static abilities that could manifest before the first turn, fundamentally changing the rhythm of gameplay by enabling spell-casting at instant speed.

The Core Set 2020 iteration maintains the visual identity of the original, emphasizing the ethereal, ley-focused aesthetic central to the setting of Ravnica where these magical conduits were first conceptualized. Illustrated by Kev Walker, the artwork captures the flowing, mystical energy characteristic of blue mana, aiming to evoke a sense of strategic foresight and temporal manipulation that remains a hallmark of competitive Commander and casual play alike.
