Leyline of Singularity

Leyline of Singularity was introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering expansion Guildpact, the second set in the Ravnica block. It belongs to a unique cycle of enchantment cards designed with the 'Leyline' mechanic, which allows players to place the card onto the battlefield from their opening hand if it is drawn, providing a strategic advantage before the first turn begins. The design sought to capitalize on the Ravnica block's focus on multicolored cards and board state management, offering a way to mitigate multiple copies of legendary permanents by making all non-land permanents legendary.

The artwork was provided by the illustrator Adam Rex, who captured the ethereal and geometric aesthetic typical of the Ravnica plane's architectural grandeur. The card represents the magical currents—or leylines—of the cityscape, rendered with a mystical, celestial visual language. Upon its release, the card was viewed as a niche but mechanically interesting utility piece, primarily finding a home in specific sideboards and combo decks where controlling the battlefield density was critical to success.
