Lightning Prowess

Lightning Prowess was released in 2012 as part of the Avacyn Restored expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the final set in the original Innistrad block, it focused on the return of the archangel Avacyn to a gothic horror world teetering on the edge of destruction. The card serves as a thematic enchantment reflecting the red mana philosophy of aggressive, impulsive action, represented here by granting creatures the haste ability and an activated damage-dealing capacity.

The card’s striking illustration was created by fantasy artist David Rapoza. His aesthetic often leans into visceral, high-contrast imagery, and for this piece, he sought to capture the frantic, crackling energy of a pyromancer channeling raw lightning.
