Where it came from
Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero was released in 2000 as part of the Nemesis expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set on the plane of Rath, the expansion focused on the rebellion led by the rebels against the Phyrexians. Lin Sivvi serves as the iconic leader of the rebels, designed to represent the strategic coordination of a guerrilla force through her ability to search the library for other rebels and place them directly onto the battlefield.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a renowned fantasy artist known for his detailed, painterly style. His depiction of Lin Sivvi aimed to capture her as a stoic, battle-hardened commander rather than a traditional warrior. Upon release, the card became a significant force in competitive formats, particularly in the Masques Block Constructed and Standard environments, where her ability to build an overwhelming board presence consistently forced rule adjustments in professional play.
