Long-Lost Lances // Long-Lost Lances

The Long-Lost Lances card, numbered 7 within The Hobbit Eternal Art Series, was commissioned as part of a commemorative set celebrating the legacy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s middle-earth literature. Released to align with the enduring cultural fascination surrounding the adaptations of the source material, the series sought to capture the aesthetic spirit of the legendarium through a blend of traditional fantasy illustration and modern card-stock production. The design process focused on evoking the ancient, tragic history of the Arnorian defense, aiming to provide a tactile piece of lore for collectors who value the deeper historical footnotes of the narrative.

The artwork for this specific card was rendered by artists tasked with maintaining a cohesive visual language across the series, prioritizing intricate detailing and a somber, muted color palette to reflect the somber tone of the lore depicted. Upon its release, the Eternal Art Series was met with moderate praise from niche collectors who appreciated the commitment to deep-cut thematic elements over more mainstream character-focused cards. While it was not intended for mass-market play, the set achieved a modest status as a high-quality keepsake for those deeply invested in the scholarly aspects of the series.
