Where it came from
The Necklace of Girion, card number 12 in The Hobbit Eternal Art Series, celebrates the rich lore of Middle-earth as established in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. This collectible series was produced to highlight key artifacts and pivotal objects from the narrative, focusing on the intricate craftsmanship and historical weight associated with the treasures of Dale and Erebor. The necklace, described in the text as a heavy string of emeralds, serves as a central point of tension and a symbol of past splendor.
The artistic direction for this series emphasizes a high-fantasy aesthetic, utilizing detailed illustrations to capture the tactile nature of the artifact. By centering the composition on the emeralds and the delicate gold filigree, the illustrators intended to evoke the regal history of the Lords of Dale. Upon release, the set was well-received by fans of the franchise for its atmospheric art style, which bridges the gap between literary description and visual representation within the growing landscape of fantasy-themed trading card collectibles.
