Where it came from
Lord Windgrace was released in 2018 as part of the Nature of the Beast deck for the Magic: The Gathering Commander 2018 set. The card depicts a legendary panther warrior from the game's deep lore, specifically from the era of the Phyrexian Invasion. The design was crafted to synergize with land-based mechanics, specifically reanimating lands from the graveyard, which solidified his position as a cornerstone commander for Jund-aligned strategies.
The character's visual identity was brought to life through the illustration of Bram Sels, who aimed to capture the regal yet battle-hardened essence of this planeswalker. Within the broader context of the Commander format, the card was well-received by players looking for a resilient, value-oriented leader. Its design remains a defining example of how character-driven mechanics can shape the longevity and popularity of a specific legendary creature in the game's secondary market.
