Where it came from
The Lotus Petal was originally released in the 1997 Tempest expansion, serving as a riff on the legendary Black Lotus by offering a one-time mana acceleration effect at the cost of the card itself. This specific iteration is part of the Secret Lair Drop Series, a specialized line of limited-run, artist-driven releases introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 2019 to cater to collectors interested in unique aesthetic treatments and thematic reprints.
Collector Number 7037 features the distinctive, stylized artistic direction typical of the Secret Lair series, often prioritizing bold, non-traditional visual interpretations over the standard game aesthetic. These drops are designed as collectible artifacts that sit at the intersection of game utility and high-concept illustration, aimed at players and enthusiasts who value the artistic evolution of the game’s iconic imagery over its decades-long history.
