Where it came from
Reliquary Tower originated as an uncommon card in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering expansion 'Conflux', designed to provide players with an infinite hand size, a utility effect that has since become a staple in the Commander format. Its inclusion in the Secret Lair series reflects the card's enduring popularity and essential status in casual deck-building, where maintaining a large hand is a frequent objective.
This specific iteration, numbered 1536, was released as part of the 'Artist Series: Johannes Voss' drop. The illustration is characteristic of Voss’s ethereal and soft-focus aesthetic, focusing on a sprawling, magical library that visualizes the card's mechanical function of holding vast knowledge. The artwork was well-received by fans of the artist's signature dreamy, painterly style, marking a departure from the more rigid, fortress-like imagery of the original printing.
