The card was designed as an Equipment artifact, providing creatures with an ability that directly burns an opponent for damage equal to the equipped creature's power whenever it attacks. This mechanic made it a staple in aggressive commander decks where maximizing damage output is the primary goal.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Lars Grant-West, who provided a visceral depiction of the weapon in action. His design aimed to convey the brutal, anti-magic sentiment suggested by the card's name and mechanical effect. The card was well-received by the community upon release, finding a lasting niche in casual play environments due to its straightforward synergy with high-power creatures and its flavor as a specialized tool for countering spell-casters.
